Abbott Employees Continue to Increase Giving in Local Communities

An Abbott scientist shares his passion for science with a student. Abbott regularly hosts science education events in local communities, inviting students, parents and teachers to join Abbott scientists for fun, hands-on experiments that introduce young people to the wonders of science.

Abbott's employee giving programs continued to expand support for non-profit groups in 2012, with 88 percent of U.S. employees raising $14.7 million for more than 5,800 organizations. Both the total dollar contribution and percentage of employees providing donations set new company records for annual charitable giving.

Employee giving is part of Abbott's broader investment in building healthier communities, and commitment to responsible citizenship. In 2011, Abbott and the company's foundation the Abbott Fund provided more than $730 million in grants and product donations.

Abbott employees also make significant contributions to non-profit organizations by sharing their time, skills and expertise in communities around the world. A few examples of this work in 2012:

Abbott employee giving includes pledges raised through the company's annual employee giving campaign, donations by employees throughout the year, and matching gifts from the Abbott Fund.

This past year, Abbott and its employees were recognized for their generous community giving and responsible citizenship. Abbott was named one of the Top 10 most generous companies in the U.S. by The Chronicle of Philanthropy. The company also was named one of America’s most community-minded companies in "The Civic 50" survey, conducted by the National Conference on Citizenship (NCoC) and Points of Light in partnership with Bloomberg LP.
