Pain

Pain is a complex symptom because it varies greatly from person to person. Yet, pain - whether mild to severe or occasional to persistent - may signal an underlying health condition. Pain can be acute or chronic. Accident, injury or surgery are some potential causes of acute pain. Acute pain usually goes away when the cause of the pain has been treated. Chronic pain is pain that lasts for months or years, even if it began with an injury or disease that has been healed. Sometimes the cause of chronic pain is not clear.

Treatments may include behavioral therapy, medications, physical therapy, exercise, or a combination of these.
