Scientific Awards & Recognition
Abbott has been recognized by numerous and varied groups for our many contributions to developing health care solutions for the patients we serve. Some of the recent honors Abbott has received include:
- 2007 Galen Prize for Innovation in Patient Care
Abbott received the 2007 Galen Prize for Best Biotechnology Product for HUMIRA® (adalimumab), the first approved fully human antibody. The Galen Prize, considered an equivalent to the Nobel Prize and awarded by Prix Galien USA, is one of the highest accolades in the pharmaceutical and biomedical industry recognizing excellence in medical and scientific research and innovation.

- 2005 Chicago Innovation Award
Abbott received a 2005 Chicago Innovation Award for the PathVysion HER-2 DNA Probe Kit. PathVysion is a test for breast cancer patients that provides physicians with genetic information to help them predict if a particular type of cancer treatment will be effective or not for an individual patient.
- 2004 Medical Device and Diagnostic Industry Magazine Award
Two Abbott employees were selected among the 100 Most Notable People in the medical device industry. An Abbott engineer was cited for his work in developing materials for implantable medical devices, and an Abbott scientist was recognized for notable contributions to the in vitro diagnostics industry.
- 2003 Heroes of Chemistry Award
Three Abbott scientists were named 2003 Heroes of Chemistry by the American Chemical Society (ACS), for the development of Kaletra (lopinavir/ritonavir), Abbott's protease inhibitor for the treatment of HIV. The Kaletra developers were cited for improving the health and well being of thousands of children worldwide.

- 2003 Chicago Innovation Award
Abbott won its first Chicago Innovation Award in 2003 for HUMIRA (adalimumab) a human monoclonal antibody approved to treat adults with moderate to severe rheumatoid arthritis. The annual awards program, sponsored by the Chicago Sun-Times, recognizes innovative products that improve consumers' lives.

- Oscar of Invention" award for invention and refinement of the world's
first commercial robotic system for automated pharmaceutical drug handling,
which will help to significantly increase pharmaceutical discovery productivity
