Process Overview

Deal Evolution Through COMMITMENT

Once you submit a lead to Abbott, our licensing professionals carefully manage the lead throughout the evaluation process. A mutually beneficial partnership is important to Abbott. We are committed to giving your opportunity priority attention. That means researching and understanding the potential of the opportunity presented, and ensuring we help you understand our approach to giving each opportunity adequate diligence.

Our review process includes several steps to ensure that the opportunity falls within Abbott’s area of scientific focus and strategic direction, with the goal of establishing a mutually beneficial partnership with your company.

Our Evaluation Process

Our process begins with screening a non-confidential summary of the opportunity. In this stage, our team reviews details of the opportunity to determine if your proposal complements our principal business.
Key internal experts review the opportunity to assess scientific and, as appropriate, commercial potential before contacting you with the next steps. Alliance Management is involved early in the process to coordinate assessments.
When we recognize a strategic fit, our scientific and/or commercial organizations champion the opportunity, fully exploring it through due diligence to determine if a mutually agreeable partnership can be formed. At this point, Alliance Management begins to assess cultural fit and ways we can best collaborate.
Discussions and negotiations then take place to determine appropriate forms for the proposed venture. After contract negotiations and finalization, deal closure and integration planning occurs. Alliance Management facilitates moving contract negotiations to operating principles by identifying key implementation champions and putting a clear governance structure in place.
Our dedicated team works with you to launch the relationship, facilitate collaborative conflict resolution and perform alliance diagnostics. The team implements changes, as the project may require, to realize the maximum long-term potential for both parties.

Ultimately, a mutual vision of the partnership is reached and commences according to the executed licensing agreement.
