Miles D. White

Chairman and Chief Executive Officer

Miles D. White is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Abbott, a pharmaceutical and medical products company. Mr. White joined Abbott in 1984, was named chief executive officer in 1998 and became chairman of the board in 1999.

Mr. White currently serves as a director of Caterpillar Inc., and McDonald’s Corporation. He is Chairman of The Culver Educational Foundation, and serves on the Executive Board at Kellogg School of Management. In addition, he serves on the board of trustees of Northwestern University, The Field Museum in Chicago, and is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Mr. White is former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, the Dean’s Advisory Board at Kellogg School of Management, The Economic Club of Chicago, and the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA).

Mr. White earned both a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and a master's degree in business administration from Stanford University.

 

Miles D. White

Thomas C. Freyman

Executive Vice President, Finance and Chief Financial Officer

Thomas Freyman is Executive Vice President, Finance and Chief Financial Officer. He was appointed to his current role in February 2004 and has served as Abbott's Chief Financial Officer since 2001.

Mr. Freyman joined Abbott in 1979, and has served in a number of financial planning and analysis positions. In 1984, Freyman was appointed Finance Director for Abbott's European distribution center in the Netherlands. He also served as Division Controller, Corporate Materials Management, Vice President and Treasurer, and Vice President and Controller, Hospital Products Division.

Prior to joining Abbott, Mr. Freyman was a certified public accountant with Ernst & Whinney, Chicago.

Mr. Freyman serves as a director of Tenneco, and on the board of the Chicago Botanic Garden. He is also a member of the Economic Club of Chicago, the S&P Corporate Ratings Issuer Council, and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

He earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Illinois and a master's degree in management from Northwestern University.

 

Richard W. Ashley

Executive Vice President, Corporate Development

Richard Ashley is Executive Vice President, Corporate Development. His responsibilities include various aspects of corporate strategic planning and business development. Mr. Ashley was appointed to his current position in February 2004.

Prior to joining Abbott, he was a senior director at McKinsey and Company, a former managing partner of the firm's Chicago office, and head of the firm's Global Leadership and Organization practice. During his 31 years with McKinsey, Mr. Ashley consulted with clients in the healthcare, energy and industrial manufacturing industries across a wide range of business and organizational issues.

Mr. Ashley is a member of the executive committee of the board of directors of Junior Achievement of Chicago and a former member of the Civic Committee of the Commercial Club of Chicago. He is a member of The Economic Club of Chicago, the American Bar Association, and the Wisconsin Bar Association.

He earned a bachelor's degree in political science and master's degree in business administration from Northwestern University. He also holds a juris doctorate from the University of Wisconsin Law School.

 

Hubert L. Allen

Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary

Hubert L. Allen is Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary. He was appointed to his current role in January 2013. Previously, he served as Divisional Vice President and Associate General Counsel, Established Pharmaceuticals.

Mr. Allen joined Abbott in 2006 as Senior Counsel, supporting the Pharmaceutical Products Division. He has held various positions within the legal department, including Divisional Vice President and Associate General Counsel, Pharmaceutical Products Group; Section Head, Nutrition Legal Operations; and Division Counsel, supporting the Pharmaceutical Products Division.

Prior to joining Abbott, Mr. Allen was Assistant General Counsel for McKesson Corporation.

He graduated with a bachelor's degree from the College of Social Studies at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut; a master’s degree in Politics from Princeton University in Princeton, New Jersey, and a juris doctorate from Yale Law School in New Haven, Connecticut.

 

Brian J. Blaser

Executive Vice President, Diagnostics Products

Brian Blaser is Executive Vice President, Diagnostics Products, where he leads Abbott's diagnostics, molecular and point-of-care businesses. He was appointed to his current position in June 2012.

Previously, Mr. Blaser served as Senior Vice President, Diagnostics; Vice President, Diagnostics Operations; Divisional Vice President, Global Operations; and Divisional Vice President, Reagent Manufacturing, all in Abbott Diagnostics.

Prior to joining Abbott, Mr. Blaser held several positions of increasing responsibility in engineering, finance and operations at Johnson & Johnson, Eastman Kodak and General Motors.

He earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering technology from the University of Dayton and a master's degree in business administration from Rochester Institute of Technology.

 

John M. Capek, Ph.D

Executive Vice President, Medical Devices

John Capek, Ph.D., is Executive Vice President, Medical Devices. Dr. Capek was appointed to his current position in July 2007 and is responsible for Abbott's Vascular, Diabetes Care, Vision Care and Animal Health businesses. Previously, he served as Senior Vice President, Abbott Vascular, heading up Abbott's global vascular business.

Before joining Abbott, Dr. Capek served in various management roles at Guidant Corporation, including president, Guidant Vascular Intervention and vice president and general manager of Bioabsorbable Vascular Solutions. He also served as vice president and general manager of Guidant Germany and vice president, marketing, Guidant Cardiac Rhythm Management Group. Before joining Guidant, Dr. Capek was manager of New Product Technology at Eli Lilly & Company.

He has a bachelor's degree in biomedical engineering, a master's degree in biomedical engineering, a master's degree in electrical engineering, a Ph.D. in biomedical engineering and a master's degree in business administration from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

 

Stephen R. Fussell

Executive Vice President, Human Resources

Steve Fussell is Executive Vice President, Human Resources. He was appointed in February 2013.

Mr. Fussell joined Abbott in 1996, as Divisional Vice President, Compensation and Benefits. He was promoted to Vice President, Compensation and Development in 1999, and to Senior Vice President, Human Resources in 2005.

Prior to Abbott, he held human resources leadership positions at Nestlé and Shell.

Mr. Fussell is Chairman of the Board and President of the Clara Abbott Foundation and a board member of the Abbott Fund. He is an author and speaker on a wide variety of subjects and has served as a guest lecturer at Cornell and other universities. In 2010, he was named to the HR Honor Roll by Human Resources Executive magazine.

He earned a bachelor’s degree from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge.

 

John C. Landgraf

Executive Vice President, Nutritional Products

John Landgraf is executive vice president, Nutritional Products. He was appointed to this position on January 1, 2011. John retired from the company on April 1, 2013 and was reappointed to his current position on October 14, 2013. Previously, Landgraf was senior vice president, Pharmaceuticals, Manufacturing and Supply and served in this position since July 2004. Prior to that Landgraf was vice president, Quality Assurance and Compliance, for Abbott's Medical Products Group.

Landgraf joined Abbott in 1977 and worked in key positions in plant quality assurance, manufacturing and marketing in Abbott's Diagnostics Division. He also held various management positions in manufacturing and engineering with Abbott International and Abbott Diagnostics Division.

Prior to joining Abbott, Landgraf worked in research and development for Inolex Corporation in Glenwood, Ill.

Landgraf serves on the boards of the Northern Illinois University Foundation, Northeast Illinois Council – Boy Scouts of America, the Mailisita Foundation and Education Center, and the Lake County Board of Health.

John earned a bachelor's degree in biology and a master's degree in microbiology from Northern Illinois University and a master's degree in business administration from the Lake Forest Graduate School of Management.

 

Michael J. Warmuth

Executive Vice President, Established Pharmaceuticals

Michael Warmuth is Executive Vice President, Established Pharmaceuticals, focusing on expanding the global market for Abbott’s portfolio of branded generic pharmaceuticals. He was appointed to his current role in November 2012.

Most recently, Mr. Warmuth served as Senior Vice President, Established Pharmaceuticals, which previously operated as part of Abbott’s global pharmaceutical business. Mr. Warmuth joined Abbott in 1986 as part of Abbott's manufacturing professional development program. He served in a variety of management roles including Senior Vice President, Diagnostics, heading Abbott’s global core laboratory Diagnostics business; Vice President and General Manager, Hematology, in Abbott's Diagnostics business; Vice President, Global Engineering Services; Divisional Vice President of Pharmaceutical Operations; and Divisional Vice President of Corporate Quality Operations.

He earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and a master's degree in business administration from Northwestern University.

 

Katherine C. Doyle

Senior Vice President, U.S. Nutrition

Katherine Doyle is Senior Vice President, U.S. Nutrition in Abbott’s global nutrition business. She was appointed to the position in March 2013. Previously, she served as Vice President, Pediatric Products. Prior to joining Abbott, she was a principal of McKinsey & Company, Inc.

Ms. Doyle brings more than 20 years of experience to Abbott, having worked with leading retailers and consumer brand leaders across North America, Europe, Africa and Asia. During her tenure at McKinsey, she served as the leader of the consulting firm’s Merchandising Practice, developing global growth strategies, marketing plans and merchandising practices for retailers and consumer brand leaders around the world.

She earned a bachelor’s degree of science and business administration from Georgetown University and a master's degree in economics from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, where she spent a year studying in Bologna, Italy and at the Universite de Paris-Sorbonne. She was also a joint economics fellow at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government and Harvard Business School.

 

Charles D. Foltz

Senior Vice President, Abbott Vascular

Charles Foltz is Senior Vice President, Abbott Vascular. He was appointed to this position in March 2013. Previously, he was Vice President, Vascular Products Operations at Abbott Vascular.

Mr. Foltz joined Abbott in 1983 as part of Abbott’s financial professional development program. He has held various management positions including, Divisional Vice President, Guidant Integration; Divisional Vice President and General Manager, Divisional Vice President Sales and Marketing and Vice President Vascular Solutions for Abbott Vascular.

Mr. Foltz serves on the board of directors of the Clara Abbott Foundation.

He earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from Michigan State University.

 

Paul K. Magill

Senior Vice President, Chief Marketing Officer

Paul Magill is Senior Vice President, Chief Marketing Officer. He was appointed to this role in November 2012.

Mr. Magill joined Abbott after serving as a strategic consultant on the company’s separation into two companies, Abbott and AbbVie. Prior to joining Abbott, he held numerous executive management positions, including partner and senior expert for McKinsey & Co., senior partner and group leader for Monitor Group, vice president, marketing for IBM Global Services, and vice president, marketing strategy for IBM Corporation.

He earned a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in geography and law from Cambridge University in Cambridge, United Kingdom and a master’s degree in business administration from Harvard Business School in Boston, Massachusetts.

 

Heather L. Mason

Senior Vice President, Abbott Diabetes Care

Heather Mason is Senior Vice President, Abbott Diabetes Care, heading up the company's global diabetes care business. She was appointed to her current role in May 2008. Previously, she served as Vice President, Latin American Operations in Abbott's international pharmaceutical business.

Ms. Mason joined Abbott in 1990. She has held a number of positions in Abbott's U.S. pharmaceutical business, including oversight of Abbott's specialty pharmaceuticals, the diabetes/metabolics and oncology franchises, and managed health care. Ms. Mason also served as Vice President, International Marketing in Abbott's international pharmaceutical business.

Prior to joining Abbott, Ms. Mason worked for Quaker Oats and FMC Corporation. She is an advisory board member of the Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association and corporate advisor for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and American Diabetes Association.

She earned a bachelor's degree in engineering from the University of Michigan and a master's degree in business administration from the University of Chicago.

 

Corlis D. Murray

Senior Vice President, Quality Assurance, Regulatory and Engineering Service

Corlis Murray is Senior Vice President, Quality Assurance, Regulatory and Engineering Services. She was appointed to her current position in February 2012. Previously, she served as Vice President, Global Engineering Services.

Ms. Murray joined Abbott in 1989 and has held a variety of management positions in quality, operations and engineering in Abbott's nutrition and diagnostics divisions.

Prior to joining Abbott, Ms. Murray held positions in engineering and quality at Recognition Equipment and Xerox Corporation.

She earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

 

Murthy Simhambhatla Ph.D

Senior Vice President, Abbott Medical Optics

Murthy Simhambhatla, Ph.D., is Senior Vice President, Abbott Medical Optics, heading up the company's global vision care business. Dr. Simhambhatla was appointed to this position in January 2013. Previously, he served as General Manager of the Ibis Biosciences unit of Abbott Diagnostics.

Dr. Simhambhatla joined Abbott in 2006 through its acquisition of Guidant Corporation, as Divisional Vice President and General Manager for Drug Eluting Stents. He also served as General Manager for commercial operations in Australia and New Zealand for Abbott Vascular. Before joining Guidant, Dr. Simhambhatla worked in research and development at Raychem Corporation in Menlo Park, CA.

He has a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from Anna University in India and master’s and doctorate degrees in polymer engineering from the University of Akron.

 

J. Scott White

Senior Vice President, International Nutrition

J. Scott White is Senior Vice President, International Nutrition, leading Abbott’s nutrition business outside the United States. He assumed his current role in March 2013.

Mr. White joined Abbott in 2005. Since then, he has held several leadership positions, including Divisional Vice President and General Manager, Abbott Nutritional Products division where he was responsible for the pediatric nutrition business; Divisional Vice President and Regional Director, Latin America, Abbott Nutrition International; and Senior Vice President, U.S. Nutrition.

Prior to joining Abbott, Mr. White held positions of increasing responsibility at Procter & Gamble in the U.S., Venezuela, and Mexico.

He earned a bachelor's degree in finance from Miami University and a master's degree in business administration from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.
