m2000 Molecular Testing System

The Abbott m2000 System: Meeting the Demands of Today's Clinical Laboratories

By reducing manual processing steps during molecular testing, the m2000 system can help deliver test results for patients with life-threatening diseases faster, improving medical care through earlier intervention.

Using sophisticated computer software, the Abbott m2000 automated instrument system accurately detects and measures life-threatening viruses and bacteria in patient samples in less than five hours, a significant reduction from other testing methods that may take up to two days. Automation also reduces manual procedures, thereby reducing the risk of human error.

The system consists of two instruments. One, the m2000sp, automates the extraction, purification and preparation of DNA and RNA from patient samples. The other, the m2000rt, measures minute levels as well as extremely high levels of a virus or bacteria in the sample.

The Abbott m2000 system is now available in the United States and Canada for use with Abbott's RealTime HIV-1 viral load test for monitoring patient therapy, with additional tests in development. In the European Union the system is available, along with a broad menu of tests, including those for HIV-1, HCV, Chlamydia and Gonorrhea.
