Rapid self-tests are a useful tool as we continue to navigate COVID-19 moving forward, but we know the pandemic has left many feeling uncertain about getting back out there safely.

We posed that question and more to 1,000 "friends" — or more commonly referred to as complete strangers in a national survey — as well as one of our infectious disease experts when they would test to help you navigate upcoming social engagements.

As the environment continues to change, individual comfort levels will differ. Each person and family should continue to determine their own risk level when deciding which activities to engage in, and testing can be a useful tool when establishing that comfort level.

It has been authorized only for the detection of proteins from SARS-CoV-2, not for any other viruses or pathogens, and is only authorized for the duration of the declaration that circumstances exist justifying the authorization of emergency use of in vitro diagnostics for detection and/or diagnosis of COVID-19 under Section 564(b)(1) of the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act, 21 U.S.C. § 360bbb-3(b)(1), unless the declaration is terminated or authorization is revoked sooner. For serial testing, the BinaxNOW COVID-19 Antigen Self Test should be performed twice over 3 days, at least 24 hours (and no more than 48 hours) apart. For symptomatic use, a single test can be used.
