Binith Cheeran, M.D., Ph.D., is senior director of medical and clinical affairs for Abbott's deep brain stimulation (DBS) business, a part of Abbott’s neuromodulation portfolio. Prior to joining Abbott, he spent more than 10 years treating patients as a clinical neurologist and more than 15 years in academic research, work for which he was honored by the International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society.

Dr. Cheeran's areas of expertise are neurology, Parkinson’s disease and digital health, including telehealth, remote monitoring and digital endpoints in clinical trials. He was an early adopter of directional DBS technology and developed the design and algorithms that underpin the InformityTM documentation and decision support tool.

As executive sponsor for the NeuroSphere Virtual ClinicTM development program at Abbott, Dr. Cheeran led the team that innovated the telehealth solution, which has won national accolades including Time Magazine's 100 Best Inventions of 2021.

Dr. Cheeran joined Abbott in March 2018. Prior to joining Abbott, he worked at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, U.K., as a neurologist on the functional neurosurgery team, optimizing patient assessment pathways and improving outreach to referring physicians. Dr. Cheeran completed his Ph.D. at the University College of London's Institute of Neurology. He has received multiple prestigious awards for his research, including the Movement Disorders Society Young Investigator Prize and the Queen Square Prize in Neurology. He has been published more than 80 times on research spanning invasive and non-invasive neuromodulation, digital health, and adaptive DBS, as well as in multiple disease areas including movement disorders.
